Best areas to live in Cardiff for a family - Part One

Pontprennau
Pontprennau, meaning “Bridge of Trees” in Welsh, is another suburb on the outskirts of beautiful countryside but lies more towards the north east, a little closer to the suburbs of Llanedeyrn, Pentwyn and St Mellons. Designated for residential development in the 1970's, it has spent the past few decades expanding greatly and now offers fantastic family living. Served by the A48 there's easy transport access to all parts of Cardiff, as well as all the essential amenities you'll be looking for. Pontprennau is served by many nearby schools, including Llanishen High, Ysgol Bro Edern, St Teilo's, Pontprennau Primary and Bryn Celyn Primary.

Lisvane/Thornhill
In the north of Cardiff there are areas such as Lisvane and Thornhill which are often seen as very pleasant areas for family life. Aside from some well respected schools (Corpus Christi, Llanishen High, the Welsh speaking Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf, Lysfaen Primary, Thornhill Primary) and close-knit communities, this is also backed up by the fact that on one side there is easy access to Cardiff city centre, while on the other side there's beautiful countryside with plenty of family hikes and days out to be enjoyed. This is perfect for families who enjoy dipping into the best the city has to offer while still being able to easily enjoy the great outdoors.

Roath
Perhaps one of the more popular and well-known areas of Cardiff, Roath has plenty to offer a growing family. It's an area that's popular with good reason, most notably due to the huge grounds of Roath park that takes centre stage with it's stunning lake. Aside from being able to have this fantastic green attraction literally on your doorstep, Roath and its roads of aesthetically pleasing traditional Victorian houses can serve up a great deal more. With a range of fantastic schools nearby serving all ages (Cardiff High, Willows High, Roath Park Primary, Marlborough Primary), strong transport links to the city centre (or even a short 20 minute walk from many parts of Roath), and a community feel from the independent stores, cafes and bars from nearby Albany Road, City Road and Wellfield Road, Roath offers an attractive mix of education, relaxation and bustling interaction across the suburb.

Heath
Best known for the local Heath hospital, but also for the wonderfully traditional houses and neighbouring Whitchurch village for those who love local community living. There is also the much-loved Heath park providing a place for plenty of outdoor play with the children, all while being centrally located within the city. Heath offers a very homely atmopshere and has long been a well-recommended place for families living in Cardiff. Notable schools that serve locals include Cathays High, Ton Yr Ywen Primary and St Joseph's Catholic Primary.
