Waste management
Cardiff Council have strict rules on how waste should be presented and when it is collected.
On recent inspections we've seen many tenants aren’t recycling correctly, which is leading to a surplus of black bin bags. These bags often exceed the collection limits, creating unnecessary waste management issues, so we ask that you familiarise yourself with the rules in place in your area.

- Put your bins out before 6am on the day of collection and no earlier than 4:30pm the day before. They need to go on the street as the Council won’t collect from forecourts or gardens. Don’t put them out too early as seagulls may rip them open! Remember to return your empty bins and food caddies to your property by 9am the day after collection.
- If you don’t leave your bags or bins out for collection in the right way on the right day you could end up with a fine. Bins that are over-spilling won’t be collected and you could also face a fine for this (as a general rule of thumb, the lid needs to close).
- When not stored within a container, bin bags are an attraction to vermin, even if they’re left inside your house or flat. Please keep them inside the bin(s) provided by the Council if you have these, or buy something to store them in.
- You can always drive to a recycling centre to get rid of items you’re unable to dispose of at the kerbside. There’s one on Bessemer Close in Leckwith and another on Lamby Way in Rumney. Don’t forget to check if you need to book an appointment before you go.
- The Council offer a ‘bulky item’ collection service for those large, awkward things you can’t dispose of at the kerbside and won’t fit in your car. The prices sometimes change, so check the website for the correct information.
