The best developments in Cardiff

Much-loved Cardiff has been named as the best city to live in when it comes to quality of life. In a sure sign of strong investor and developer confidence new commercial developments are taking shape across the city; notably at Cardiff Centre and Cardiff Bay. Here are just some examples:

Spillers & Bakers

This unique-looking, Grade II-listed building was constructed by milling company Spillers in 1887, before being converted into a luxury apartment block in the late 1980s. Located in Atlantic Wharf - not far from the city centre - Spillers and Bakers residents have use of a communal gym, two saunas and allocated parking, with views from all windows and French doors overlooking the Bay.

Century Wharf

One of the most popular developments in the Bay area, on-site facilities include the exclusive resident-only Centurion Leisure and function suite, a 15m swimming pool, gym, spa bath and solarium. Many of its apartments have an upgraded specification, including under-floor heating and balconies. With a 24-hour concierge service, video entry phone systems and CCTV, the development is completely secure. Running alongside the River Taff, Century Wharf is an ideal link between the city centre and the heart of Cardiff Bay.

Waterquarter

This aptly-named development is situated just off the link road - ideal for those commuting out of Cardiff. The Waterquarter was completed in 2006 and offers modern, spacious living with water views aplenty.

Edward England Wharf

Located at the bottom end of Lloyd George Avenue – the long stretch of road that links the City Centre and Cardiff Bay – Edward England Wharf could almost be considered a city centre development. Its exterior stone finish and quiet location makes it attractive to residents and visitors alike.

Cymric House

Listed as a Grade II building in 1992, Cymric House (often referred to as Cymric Buildings) mixes old and new, having since been renovated into modern apartments. With each flat different to the next and located minutes away from Mermaid Quay, this development is ever-popular.

Adventurers Quay

Being one of the first developments in the Bay, Adventurers Quay makes full use of its choice of positioning by overlooking the navigational channel between the Roath Basin and the working Port of Cardiff, making for some spectacular views towards Penarth. The apartments are larger than the norm and are given a sense of security by being fully gated around the outside.

Celestia

With each flat benefiting from an allocated parking space and lift access in each block, as well as its high quality finish throughout,

Celestia is in big demand. An award-winning interior designer was on-hand to lend their advice when fitting out the apartments, meaning this development is set apart from the rest. It boasts a 24-hour concierge, a fitted security system with electronic intercom and remote entrance gates.

The Granary

Built in the middle of Lloyd George Avenue and finished in 2007, The Granary is a five-storey mix of one and two-bedroom apartments - making up a total of 62 units in all - with a car park throughout the ground floor. To help the façade reflect the character of the original Granary building, Woodkirk stone was quarried from Yorkshire, with face brickwork, render and natural stone used in the finish.
