What’s on in Cardiff? Our round up for August 2021

We've put together a list of the hottest new places to head to for all sorts of entertainment in the city. From the fast food restaurant that's got Cardiff residents queuing around the block, to assault courses that will guarantee the kids are kept busy for the rest of the summer break, read on to find out what everyone's been talking about this month!

Jollibee (78 Queen St, CF10 2GR)

Over in Asia, Jolibee is as well-known as McDonalds, especially in its native Philippines. Up until last month, if you were craving a Jollibee fix in the UK you'd have to head to London, Leicester, Liverpool or Leeds. But you can now find them on Queen Street, where the old Burger King used to be. Even though they opened on July 24th, you'll still be likely to encounter a long line of people waiting to get in! Overhyped or worth the wait? You'll have to join the queue and find out for yourself. If you want to try something different, opt for the sweet spaghetti with hotdog pieces; a Filipino staple.

Check out the menu over on their website.

Everyman Cinema

Everyman Cinema (Mermaid Quay, CF10 5BZ)

A boutique cinema where you can relax on velvet sofas with cocktails delivered to your seat…sounds too good to be true, but that's exactly what you'll experience at Everyman in Mermaid Quay. If you're crazy about film and want to try something unique to the city, head here to indulge in a smaller, more intimate movie experience than you'll find at other cinemas in Cardiff, set within a charming art deco setting. Apparently they “do an old fashioned with an orange twist so good you'd think M. Night Shyamalan made it!”

For more information and movie listings, head to their website.

Aqua Park

Aqua Park (Cardiff Bay Barrage)

Fancy seeing which member of your family will be first to ‘wipe out'? Explore the huge inflatable waterpark with over 50 splash-tastic obstacles to enjoy as Cardiff Bay's Aqua Park returns for 2021. The course includes trampoline, monkey bars, climbing bars, balance bars, slides and more. Great fun for everyone who considers themselves a bit of an adrenaline junkie, or even a good shout for a spot of office team building!

This year things are running at a reduced capacity with staggered start times, to ensure everybody's safety - read more here along with opening times and ticket information.

Ninja Warrior

Ninja Warrior (Hadfield Road, CF11 8AQ)

If the Aqua Park appeals to your competitive side, but you just can't cope with getting wet, Cardiff's Ninja Warrior might be more up your street. Located over in Grangetown, you can find out if you have what it takes to be a 'Ninja Warrior' with obstacles inspired by the hit TV show. You can also book a child's party with an hour on the course, meals and drinks in the cafe and an hour in your own VIP party room.

You can find all opening hours and booking information over on their website.

Shangri La

Shangri La (Cardiff Castle, 21st August)

Festival lovers rejoice! Celebrate 10 years of Shangri-La at this open air event at Cardiff Castle, headlined by “contemporary face of UK house music” Patrick Topping and his new show TRICK. With the easing of restrictions, we bet the vibe and atmosphere will be electric as everyone gets to share the joy of live music once more. If you're keen to celebrate Wales' ‘newfound freedom' and have missed your nights out with a passion, what better way than to get stuck in with this party of epic proportions.

Tickets available online and if you fancy an all-nighter, you can book for the after-party as well.

Boom: Battle Bar

Boom: Battle Bar (The Old Brewery Quarter, CF10 1FG)

The latest addition to The Old Brewery Quarter is billed as “Cardiff's BEST Adventure bar”. In fact, it's probably our only one! Where else can you find Bavarian axe throwing, crazy golf, shuffleboards, table tennis and electric darts all in one place, complete with top quality street food and reasonably priced cocktails to boot? No alcohol is allowed with groups booking to throw any axes around, you'll all be pleased to know…!

Check out their website for activity and table bookings.
