Cardiff Blues Go Green

Cardiff Blues' green European shirt

During the Cardiff Blues' Family Fun Day which was held at Cardiff Arms Park on the 19th of July, the Blues unveiled their new European shirt for the upcoming 2014/2015 season, and as part of their larger campaign to help the environment, this season the Blues are going green!

The new green strip, which is backed by packaging and recycling company DS Smith Recycling, features the CPS Homes logo on the right sleeve as part of our ongoing three year sponsorship of the Cardiff Blues. We must say that we love the new European kit (although it's maybe a shame that we'll only see it in European competition!) and we fully support the Blues' public pledge to help the environment with their new jerseys, but also in action.

The 6 environmental commitments of the Cardiff Blues

The launch of the new European jersey was the occasion for the Cardiff Blues to announce a wider campaign aimed at helping to sustain and improve the environment. This new campaign incorporates six pledges developed to help the playing team, coaching staff, administration and even the fans become more environmentally-aware and environmentally-friendly over the course of the new season. The six commitments are:

  1. After each match, the players will only take a total of six minute showers for the entire squad;
  2. Fans will be encouraged to use public transport when travelling to and from matches. The Blues will be running a competition to find the best 'selfie' taken on public transport (bus and train but walking and cycling will also count) – the winner will be announced at the end of the 2014/2015 season;
  3. Energy consumption around the BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park will be reduced;
  4. All cups used on match days will be replaced with recyclable cups;
  5. Recycling bins will be placed around the stadium;
  6. Cardiff Blues will donate a percentage of their profit for each European shirt sale to Keep Wales Tidy.

Fans who are interested in purchasing the new 2014/2015 European jersey can find them at the Cardiff Blues store on Westgate Street and on the Cardiff Blues website. Make sure to grab yours before the Cardiff Blues take on Zebre Rugby at the Stadio XXV Aprile in Parma, Italy on the weekend of the 5th of September 2014 – the first weekend of the new Pro12 season!
