Development & Regeneration in Cardiff Bay

Over the past 10 years, Cardiff Bay and Penarth Marina have experienced a massive regeneration, largely as a result of the establishment of the Cardiff Bay Development Corporation and the completion of the Barrage in 1999.

This created a large freshwater lake that gave the Bay, Mermaid Quay and Penarth a new lease of life and since then businesses and property developers alike have flocked to the area, creating some truly innovative new developments, many built to make the most of the water views.

The Bay has also become a fashionable venue for events, exhibitions and attractions such as the Wales Millennium Centre and the National Assembly for Wales, and has even become one of the prime locations of Doctor Who and Torchwood!

Many shops and watersports have also relocated to Mermaid Quay and the Bay recently and the waterfront, its restaurants and stunning views are an undoubtable draw for visitors.

Already there’s close to 2 million tourists a year, and it’s likely to rise considerably with the completion of many new attractions.

Cardiff Bay is now the place to go for socializing in Cardiff, whether you’re looking for restaurants, bars, clubs, music, cinemas, bowling… Cardiff Bay caters for it all.
