Mermaid Quay isn't the only area of the Bay that is being rejuvenated.
Currently, the area next to the A434 leading into Penarth is undergoing huge development.
This area will shortly be housing the International Sports Village, which will be a huge move forward for the rest of the Bay, providing facilities such as an ice rink for local residents.
Projects like this will act as a catalyst for future renovation in the south Bay area.
Cardiff International Sports Village located in Cardiff Bay will be a landmark development combing world class sporting facilities as well as a resort for leisure.
The regeneration of Cardiff Bay has been well documented and this development last year was pivotal for this landmark development which will be both a world class sporting facility and one billion pound destination resort. The program is a major part of a continuing regeneration strategy and will transform a former brown field industrial site into an international destination.
Cardiff International Sports Village is expected to attract 3.5 million visitors with an anticipated spend 270 million pounds. The program will provide up to 5,000 jobs and create an additional 2,500 jobs within the region.
The development has already provided new highways and an infrastructure network to the city centre and will continue to bring investment into local skills at all levels and improvements to the local environment and facilities.
Cardiff County Council states that "The concept of Cardiff International Sports Village is an exciting and vibrant mix of facilities, attractions and venues providing a unique destination to visit but also to live within."
Bay Pointe Ltd have recently unveiled plans for a development of 1000 luxury Cardiff Bay apartments which will compliment existing apartments such as Victoria Wharf.
A new 2000 seat temporary ice rink has been erected on the Cardiff International Sports Village site. This is already hosting professional ice hockey matches as well as offering recreational skating for the public. This facility will be replaced when the new snow box is operational.
It provides an extensive range of facilities, which include a 50 meter pool, built to international championship standards with 10 lanes and seating for 1,000 spectators.
Cardiff International Pool is the focal point of Cardiff International Sports Village, and is privately run.
